Support
For help with MacroBalance, email support@macrobalance.app. Please include your iPhone's iOS version, the app version (at the bottom of Settings), what you did and what happened. For a problem with a food's details, include its barcode — it's the quickest way for us to find it.
Common questions
Where is my data kept?
On your devices and in your own private iCloud, which also syncs it between your devices. MacroBalance has no accounts and no server that stores your log. If your data isn't appearing on another device, check both are signed in to the same Apple ID and that iCloud Drive is on for MacroBalance in iOS Settings.
How do I back up or export my data?
In Settings › Privacy › Export or back up, you can save CSV files of your food entries, daily summaries and body measurements, or make a full backup file you can restore from. Exports go wherever you save them with the share sheet. Progress photos aren't included; they sync through iCloud instead.
How does Apple Health work with MacroBalance?
Turn Apple Health on or off at the bottom of Settings in the app. MacroBalance reads only what you turn on — body weight, active and resting energy, and food recorded by other apps — and writes your logged food only if Save food to Apple Health is on. To revoke access entirely, open the Health app and go to Sharing › Apps › MacroBalance. Nothing from Apple Health leaves your device.
How do I turn off usage and crash reports?
Settings › Privacy › Share usage and crash reports. Turning it off also deletes the random analytics ID on all your devices. Reports are anonymous either way — see the privacy policy.
A barcode scan found the wrong food, or nothing
Barcodes the catalogue doesn't know are looked up on Open Food Facts, and some products simply aren't listed yet. You can enter the food yourself from its label — the app can read the label with the camera — and report a wrong match from the food's details. Shared corrections make the catalogue better for everyone.
How do I lock my progress photos?
Settings › Progress photos › Lock progress photos. The lock uses Face ID or your passcode and is set per device. You can also delete selected photos, or all of them, from the same screen — that removes them from iCloud and every device.
What does Fresh start do?
Fresh start hides your history so the app starts clean; it doesn't delete anything. Your earlier data is still there and still yours. To delete data, delete the entries themselves.
Shared foods
Foods you shared, and their status, are in Settings › Shared foods. You can withdraw a shared food there until it's been checked. You can also erase your contributor code: your shared foods stay published, but nothing links them to your devices any more. To ask for a shared food or label photo to be removed — including if it's your product — email support@macrobalance.app with the barcode, and say whether you shared it or it's your product. The full terms are at macrobalance.app/contribution-terms.
Deleting your data
Everything you log can be deleted in the app. To remove all app data from iCloud as well, delete the app and remove its iCloud data in iOS Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage. The privacy policy has the full picture.
