Contribution terms
These are the terms you accept when you share a food from MacroBalance. They are the same terms the app shows before you share.
What you share
The food’s name, brand, barcode, nutrition values and one photo of its nutrition label. Nothing from your food log, recipes, weight or settings, and nothing that identifies you. Your device sends a random contributor code so you can follow and withdraw what you shared.
How it’s used
Automatic checks compare the values with the label photo and with what other people share. Foods that pass are shown to other MacroBalance users and added to Open Food Facts, a free, open food database. MacroBalance may keep, correct or remove what you share.
Permission you give
You confirm the photo is of a product label you took or may share, and you let MacroBalance publish the food facts in its catalogue and share them, with the photo, with Open Food Facts under its licences: the Open Database Licence for data and Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike for photos. Once published there, a contribution can’t always be withdrawn.
Your choices
You can withdraw a shared food until it’s been checked, from Settings › Shared foods. You can also erase your contributor code there: your shared foods stay published but are no longer linked to it. Label photos are deleted 90 days after a decision.
Questions and removals
To ask about something you shared, or to ask for a food or photo to be removed, email support@macrobalance.app. Include the barcode, and say whether you shared it or it’s your product.
